How does the protection work?

When the head is exposed to an impact, force is transferred toward it.

SafeHat features an integrated protective layer designed to absorb and disperse part of that impact – helping distribute the force across a larger area.

The protection is developed for everyday situations where minor impacts to the head may occur.

Although only 5 mm thin, the material has energy-absorbing properties, allowing it to be seamlessly integrated into the hat’s design.

SafeHat is not a substitute for a safety helmet and is not intended to protect against heavy impacts, falls, or collisions.

The protection is strategically placed around the forehead and back of the head, where the head is often more vulnerable.

Tested at RISE

How has the protection been tested?

The protection has been tested by RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden), an independent Swedish research institute.

Testing was carried out in a laboratory environment using specialized equipment to evaluate the material’s properties and how the protective layer behaves under impact.

The tests involved impact velocities of 2–3 m/s, which correspond to levels commonly referenced in research on everyday slips and minor head impacts.

The purpose of the testing was to examine the material’s response under controlled and repeatable conditions.

Test results

What did the tests tell us?

Tests conducted by RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden) demonstrate how the integrated protective layer affects force transfer during controlled impact testing.

Measurements were compared with and without the protective layer to evaluate how the material responds to impact. The results indicate that the protective layer can help reduce the measured force transfer under test conditions.

The effect may vary depending on factors such as point of impact, temperature, and specific test conditions.

SafeHat is not a substitute for a safety helmet and is not intended to protect against heavy impacts, falls, or collisions.

About our protection

The material

We have developed a protective solution based on a newly engineered material – created with care for both people and the environment.

Many traditional plastics used in protective equipment can contain chemicals that aren’t always ideal for products worn close to the body. That’s why we set out to create a better alternative.

Together with experts in materials and design, we’ve developed a unique material that is non-toxic and based on food-grade components.

It is thin, soft, and flexible – while also offering energy-absorbing properties that make it well-suited for handling everyday impacts.

THE MATERIAL

About our protection

Safety in everyday life

We have developed a protection made from a newly developed material that is created with care for both people and the environment. Traditional plastic materials used to make this kind of protection often contain dangerous chemicals that pose a risk to both people and our planet. That's why we felt it was time for a change.

Together with experts in materials and design, we have developed a unique material that is both non-toxic and made from food-grade components. The material is thin but at the same time effective when it comes to protecting against everyday impacts.

Why OICAN?

Tested at RISE

The beanies have been tested by RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden), an independent Swedish research institute.

As there are currently no established standardized test methods for this type of product, certain test procedures were designed with reference to methods used in EN 812 (the standard for industrial bump caps), in order to create comparable testing conditions.

SafeHat is not certified under EN 812.

Non-toxic

The protective systems inside the beanies are made from a newly developed material based on the same types of raw components commonly used in toys and medical products.

All material components are food-grade, meaning they are non-toxic.

The fabrics are OEKO-TEX® certified, and all cotton fabrics are GOTS certified, ensuring they are free from harmful substances and gentle on the skin.

Made in Sweden

OICAN products are manufactured in Sweden to minimize transportation distances and maintain close control throughout the entire production process.

This allows us to ensure high product quality and better oversee our suppliers’ sustainability practices.

Kind to the environment

OICAN SafeHat is manufactured in Sweden using non-toxic materials and with low CO₂ emissions.

Local production reduces transportation distances, making it a more sustainable choice.

Certified

The material is certified according to EU directive 2016/425, risk category 1. Read more about this here.

COMPETITIVE COMPARISON

We can bear to be compared

We developed SafeHat with the ambition to push the boundaries of what protective headwear can be.

Through carefully engineered materials and a thoughtfully designed construction, we’ve created protection that combines a slim profile with effective impact absorption.

Tests conducted by RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden) show that the material can handle impacts despite the protective layer being only 5 mm thin.

The result is a beanie that brings together function, comfort, and style – designed to be worn effortlessly in everyday life.
